An Exciting Year for Netta Yerushalmy’s “Paramodernities”

Netta Yerushalmy’s PARAMODERNITIES has had a greatly successful artistic year in 2017.

It is a series of lecture-performances, or dance-experiments, generated through deconstructions of landmark modern choreographies, performed alongside contributions by scholars and writers who situate these iconic works within the larger project of Modernism.

Exploring foundational tenets of modern discourse—such as sovereignty, race, feminism, and nihilism—PARAMODERNITIES includes public discussions as inseparable parts of each installment.  Eighteen amazing dancers and scholars are part of this expansive journey, all of them joining forces with Netta to generate questions and thoughts around the contours of modernism in dance and beyond.

Here are some highlights:

* Paramodernities received a National Dance Project Production and Residency Grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts. The award provides support for the development of the work as well as national touring through 2019.

* Paramodernities was part of Josiah McElheny’s Prismatic Park; a joint commission from Danspace Project & the Madison Square Park Conservancy.
