Silent Voices Festival

Silent Voices Project invites women musicians from around the world to submit original chamber woodwind compositions for the Spring 2023 Silent Voices Festival in Bemidji, MN.

My composition "Recitativo" - for tenor saxophone and horn - will be performed at the Silent Voices Festival.
Tenor Saxophone: Jeremy Wohletz
Horn: Heidi Wick

The composition Recitativo presents the instruments in a 'Spoken' aspect, simulating human relationships and discourseThe instruments, just like two people, talk, whisper, argue, contradict, also fight, scream and hurt, and finally, come to a cancelation with each other. The work ends with the Shofar blast - an ancient Biblical horn - as a reverberation or prophetic fanfare that reminds human generations of the insights that emerge from human relations and the aspiration for national brotherhood.

Silent Voices Project is a large-scale project initially funded through a Bemidji State University New Faculty Scholarship and Innovation Fund grant. Members Sarah Elizabeth Lee (bassoon), Miriam Brack Webber (bassoon), and Hilary Lowery (clarinet), seek to raise awareness of women composers through commissions, performances, education and other research venues.
