Nominated for 'Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year' (Canadian Folk Music Awards 2020), recipient of the 2014 ACUM Prize for Special Achievement in Jazz, and the prestigious 2014 Landau Prize, Itamar Erez is an internationally renowned composer and guitarist who has shared the stage with such musicians as Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Tomatito, Avishai Cohen, Jean-Louis Matinier, Zohar Fresco, and others.
His most recent CD “Mi Alegria” was released in June 2019 with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, and has already received raving reviews, both nationally and internationally, including a recent nomination for the 2020 Instrumental Artist of the Year Award, from the Canadian Folk Music Awards.
Itamar performs internationally and gives workshops and masterclasses, teaching his unique approach to music and guitar playing.
In recent years, Itamar has performed in Canada, USA, Israel, Germany, Greece, Japan, Netherlands, Austria, Cyprus, India, Tunisia, Hungary, Colombia & Surinam.
Itamar made his Carnegie Hall (NY) debut Apr 2018 performing with the Omar Faruk Tekbilek Ensemble with Ara Dinkjian & Brian Keane as special guests.
Itamar is on the world music, jazz and classical guitar faculty at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School Of Music.
James Meger is an active bassist and composer currently working and residing in Vancouver. He’s received education in music from Capilano College in Vancouver and also from Mcgill University in Montreal, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Jazz performance. Since moving back to Vancouver he has had the opportunity to collaborate with many local and international players such as Wayne Horvitz, Lori Freedman, Ig Henneman, Lina Allemano, Peggy Lee, Brad Turner and Lisa Miller, and has made many appearances at The Vancouver Jazz Festival, The Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival, Tone Fest in Toronto and The Vancouver Improvised Music Meeting.
He is also active as a sideman and co-leader in various ongoing projects, including: Peggy Lee's Echo Painting, Sick Boss, The Alicia Hansen Band, The Bruno Hubert Trio, The Now Orchestra, Elisa Thorn’s HUE, Cow Trance and The Sumner Brothers. Recently James spent several months in the Netherlands studying with renowned improvisor Wilbert de Joode thanks to an Early Career Development grant from the BC Arts Council. He also co-curates a weekly interdisciplinary performance series at the Gold Saucer Studio in Vancouver called Sawdust Collector.
Drummer and composer Kevin Romain has established himself as one of the most in-demand drummers in Vancouver’s creative music scene.
After relocating from Windsor, ON in 2007, Romain studied jazz and contemporary music at Vancouver Community College. Since then he has toured regularly across North America as well as Europe, China, Japan and West Africa. He has studied with Mark Guiliana, Dan Weiss, Tomas Fujiwara, Bernie Arai and Dylan Van Der Schyff, and has shared the stage with such luminary musicians as Anthony Braxton and legendary Senegalese percussionist Doudou N’Diaye Rose. He can be heard performing regularly around Vancouver as both a leader and sideperson, moving freely between jazz, improvised and contemporary styles. Romain has garnered acclaim as a unique voice on the drum set and is currently interested in exploring the application of polyrhythmic vocabulary in improvisation.
