Father Figure: A Play by Sharon Stark and Roey Maliach Reshef

A theatrical parable about education and parenting in the modern age

Father Figure is a theatrical parable about education and parenting in the modern age.

Betty Dropper hires the services of Mr. Spitz to be the father of her extremely spoiled teenager. But when the father's strict education methods take over the house and the daughter starts to make phenomenal progress, Betty finds her role as a mother is in jeopardy.

The play is a biting comedy about a girl who has no boundaries. It takes a satirical look at different models of parenting at a time and age that seems to be out of control. The play examines the relationships between parents and children as role-playing. The dynamics within a family are deconstructed through the theatrical Distancing Effect. We examine the concept of child welfare in a slightly futuristic, capitalistic world in which a teenager can choose and rent his parents, just as he chooses his high school or future career.
