About Liron Elkan

Liron Elkan received her professional undergraduate degree from the Haifa Technion, summa cum laude, in 2004 and a Master in Architecture with distinction from UCLA in 2005. Her studies included a semester at Carnegie Mellon, Pittsburgh and travel studies in the Netherlands. Liron received two separate grants from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, one during her studies in Israel and one aimed at studying abroad.

During her studies, Liron won competitions organized by the Israeli Ministry of Education, Dead Sea Works and Shikun Ovdim, Israel’s largest residential developer. She also received numerous awards from the Technion, among them the Ilana Leibman Award for Academic Excellence and an award for her final thesis project dealing with mass customization of housing. In Israel, Liron worked for Gaby Schwartz, who won the 2003 Rechter Prize, Israel’s top honor for architecture. At this firm she was involved in the design of several competition entries, including an entry for Tel Aviv Museum of Art extension building and the winning entry for a new graduate student village at the Technion.

At UCLA, Liron was exposed to cutting edge processes and technologies used in leading design practices. Her design thesis project at UCLA was in a studio led by Greg Lynn, exploring new typologies for the contemporary art collection. Following her studies at UCLA, Liron started working for Frank Gehry Partners, where she is currently working on the residential portion of the Grand Avenue Project, a large-scale mixed use development in Los Angeles, across the street from the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

"The AICF grant is a bridge, making the world smaller for me. AICF enabled studies and subsequent work experience on a truly global level."
